Installing and Setting Up the VizSeek Desktop App

Get the latest version of the VizSeek Desktop App here: VizSeek App Download Page

You must agree to the end user license agreement before you can download and install the desktop app.

The installer will use a default installation location in your Program Filesfolder.

Signing in for the first time

Use the same sign-in information that you use when you log into VizSeek on the web. Enter your email address and password and click Sign In .

If you do not have a VizSeek account yet, you can click the link under Not a member? Sign up .

After signing in, you’ll be taken to the Settings page where you can set up automatic syncing and specify the types of files that you want to sync.

Once you click Save in the Settings page, you’ll be taken to the Home page where you can set up the local and network locations that you want to sync to your VizSeek Enterprise account.

Assign your computer a name

The desktop app automatically retrieves your computer’s name from your computer and enters it here. You can change it, but make sure to keep it unique and descriptive. This name is used as the top-level “folder” name for files synced from this computer when you’re searching in VizSeek.

How often do you want to automatically sync?

You can set up a schedule for the desktop app to automatically sync the files from the folders that you specify. Note that the scheduled sync only applies to folder syncing and not to product or file attribute uploads. Product and file attribute uploads are only done manually.

Select On a schedule in this section, and set a time, frequency (daily or weekly), and if you’ve selected Weekly as the frequency, select the day of the week for the sync to run.

Select Never if you want to start the sync process yourself every time.

Choose file types to upload

Place checkmarks by all the file types that you want to upload from your folders. All the types are selected by default. Remove the check marks if there are any types you want to ignore when you upload or sync.

Changes saved to the selected file types are reflected the next time the resource is synced with the VizSeek server. For instance, if the .jpg extension is selected and saved, then during the next sync, all .jpg extension files in the specified folder, will sync with the VizSeek server. Conversely, if the .jpg extension is unselected and saved, those resources with the .jpg extension will be removed from the VizSeek server.

The Configuration section is informational, showing the website that you are syncing to ( and where indexing will occur (either Server or Client). Click here for more information on indexing.

The HTTP Cache Directory is the directory path for files that are synced from an HTTP location. It is used to cache an HTTP resource to ensure that the resource is both available and readily accessible. If you leave this field blank, files from the HTTP location are downloaded to the application directory where the desktop app is located and a "cache" sub-directory is created to store the file locally. The local cache is refreshed when the desktop application is launched.
