What is VizSeek?
VizSeek is search technology that finds the information you need by shape, or a combination of shape and text. It is NOT a web search. It only searches within each client's secure database, returning results that will quickly resolve the problem. We primarily serve the industrial market.
The intelligent visual search engine
VizSeek®, a revolutionary intelligent visual search engine, is changing how the industry searches. Similar to Google, VizSeek indexes data and makes it easily searchable. It’s important to note that the data can be indexed from multiple locations and doesn’t rely on the data to be structured. VizSeek uses geometric similarity (shape) and visual information, to accurately identify exact or similar matches from large heterogeneous data sources. This unique search engine is also system independent. Adding intelligent visual search to existing PLM/ERP/SCM systems or even applications such as SharePoint, will make it easier and quicker for users to find parts. Implementing a successful design reuse strategy is now possible.
This versatility enables VizSeek to be utilized to solve critical problems in multiple areas such as eliminating part duplication, reusing existing part designs for new parts, quoting and procurement, tooling reuse, increasing efficiency of service and maintenance activities, and improving the overall customer experience when purchasing aftermarket parts.
Structured vs unstructured search
Would you say it’s easier to find a book in a library, or find it on Google? Libraries use a very organized, structured system which has been around since 1876, and Google’s technology is a search engine with very little organization. The reality is that it’s much faster to use Google. The reason being is that the search engine works like the human mind. People like to search for things by describing it or selecting from specific attributes such as size or color without the need to be an expert. In addition, new technologies such as visual search make it even easier for people to find things. When we see an image, our brains use the history of what we’ve seen in our lifetimes to identify the object we’re viewing. Visual search functions in the same manner.
Traditional classification
Many companies have invested heavily in PLM and ERP systems to accelerate their product development and organize their data into a more structured format, only to find out these systems have gaps and are very expensive to upkeep. These gaps, along with design information being stored in many databases across a company, finding existing parts to reuse is a huge challenge for engineers. Even if the initial implementation goes smooth, enforcing the classification procedures throughout the company is virtually impossible as PLM and ERP systems weren’t designed to do these tasks.
How is VizSeek different than our competition?
There are excellent visual search engines for photo to photo searches. There are others that are outstanding for 3D model to 3D model search. VizSeek does all of this, plus 2D, pdf, and hand-sketch searches. VizSeek can locate the same shape in over 40 different file types.
Accurate
VizSeek identifies the exact match for a product within a category. Others only recognize the category a product belongs to, but do not find the matching product.
Versatile
VizSeek allows shape search across file types, such as using an image or a 2D drawing to find 3D models. Others only allow image to image search or 3D model to 3D model search.

As a SaaS solution, VizSeek provides you with ground-breaking, resource-intensive image search and 3D model search APIs with no infrastructure or maintenance investment.
What file types are supported?
How does indexing work?
You can upload and index your own content (e.g., product images or 3D models). Indexing for visual search can be resource-intensive, which is why we offer VizSeek as software-as-a-service.
We have state-of-the-art server clusters that will index your uploaded files, creating a shape signature that can later be used for searching. We have a desktop app that you use for your upload and for future syncing, so the upload process runs as smoothly and quickly as possible.
If your files are sensitive and you don't want to upload them to our servers for indexing, we offer an on-premises solution. We can install the search engine behind your firewall to meet your high security restrictions.
How does integration work?
VizSeek can be easily integrated with your existing systems, whether that might be an e-commerce website or mobile app, using our APIs. Once you upload and index your files to VizSeek, you can use the APIs to send search queries and retrieve results that then appear on your site or app.

How accurate is visual search?
Visual search is fundamentally different from text search in this way: visual search returns images or 3D models that are most similar to your input, and the results are ranked by similarity.
If there's an exact match in the set of data that you're searching, you'll get that back first. Otherwise, you'll get back the results that are most similar. To use an extreme example, if you're searching with a picture of a shoe within a set of pictures of power tools, you'll get results, but they'll all be power tools, ranked by their similarity to the shoe.
